“What makes the desert beautiful,’ said the little prince, ‘is that somewhere it hides a well…”

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Fin Ghade (Where Are You Going), digital, 12 mins, sound, 2015

the weight of mountains, tissardmine, Morocco

a curious protagonist sets off on an endless quest over unnamed rocky, sandy terrain. stopping, starting, spinning in ever changing directions. across desert drifts this darkling beetle racing and stumbling towards destination, unknown.

imbued with what could be translated as a profound if concealed quest of purpose. one of some urgence, a form of Saudade; the longing for an absent something that is perhaps to be found in the idealised, sense of arrival/ survival.

the artist, connecting this moisture seeking carabaeus on its boundless journey in the vast landscape to our own frail, human searching, by asking, where are you going?
