Imported from Italy in 1904 by an English financier who later took his own life after being convicted of fraud, These striking female figures form the focus of a sculptural – cascade and pool. located in the once private, riverside garden of sir Ratan tata.

The statues depict several of the Oceanides (water nymphs / daughters of the titans) and were acquired by tata, unseen in a sale of goods from the estate of the DECEASED FINANCIER. crated as shipped originally, from Italy.

This small group of statues are interpreted by the artist within this work, as Agathoi Diamones. Good spirits, seen to be helpful intermediaries between the Gods and mankind.

known locally as the ‘Naked ladies or pearl fishers‘, their incongruous history fully inhabiting the film’s investigations through archive, interview and experimental cine-fiction.
